So stop writing vague headlines like “Open up Your Potential” or “Better Blogging Starts Here.”

Those are noise. They’re wallpaper. They don’t convert.

Here’s the formula I use:

I help [Your Target Audience] achieve [Specific Desirable Outcome] through [Your Unique Method].

Bad: “Grow Your Blog”

Good: “I help freelance writers land 3+ paid clients per month using cold email templates that actually get replies.”

Bad: “Learn SEO”

Good: “I help local plumbers rank on page one for ‘leaky faucet repair [city]’. Without hiring an agency.”

See the difference? One names a person. A result.

A method. The other floats in space.

Add a sub-headline right under it. One sentence. Address the pain.

Like: “Tired of writing posts no one reads?”

Or: “What if your next blog post brought in $2,400 instead of 12 pageviews?”

Then. And this is non-negotiable. Put one CTA button below it.

Not two. Not “Learn More” and “Get Started.” Just one. Tied directly to the promise.

“Download the Guide” only works if the headline promised a guide.

“Book a Call” only makes sense if the headline said you’d help them fix X.

I’ve tested this across 47 blogs. Every time we tightened the headline + subhead + CTA into one clear thread, conversions jumped. Not by 10%.

Stop Dumping Posts on Your

I used to do it too. Just let WordPress auto-fill my homepage with the latest posts. Reverse chronological order.

Feels safe. Feels default.

It’s not safe. It’s lazy.

New visitors land and see a random post from last Tuesday about coffee filters. They have no idea what your site is for. Or why they should care.

Repeat visitors? Yeah, they might like it. But most people aren’t repeat visitors yet.

And you’re not building that relationship if they bounce in 3 seconds.

So I killed the default feed. Cold turkey.

Now I treat my homepage like a front door. Not a loading dock.

First thing: a Hero Section. One sentence. One clear value prop.

Not “Welcome to my blog.” Try “I help small builders avoid permit disasters in Medellín.” (Yes, that’s real. And yes, it converts.)

Then a “Start Here” section. Three or four posts. Not your favorites.

Your cornerstone content. The ones with the most traffic. The ones people bookmark.

The ones that answer the big questions.

How do you spot them? Look at your analytics. Find posts with >1000 views and low bounce rates.

Those are your pillars. (If you don’t track bounce rate (fix) that first.)

After that? Small categorized blocks. “Most Read in Permits.” “Latest in Tile Trends.” Keep it tight. Two links per block.

Max.

Add a tiny “About Me” (photo) included. No fluff. Just who you are and what you solve.

Then one line of social proof. A real testimonial. Or “As seen in El Colombiano.” Not five logos.

One. Done.
